9 days tour from Casablanca to Marrakech
DAY 1: CASABLANCA - RABAT
You will start this first day with a panoramic tour of Casablanca, the economic capital of the Kingdom. You will see its main districts and all its sites of interest: the Medina, Place Mohamed V, the Place of the United Nations, the central market, the Habbous district, the Royal Palace, the residential area of Anfa and the beautiful corniche Ain Diab with its swimming pools and gourmet restaurants, with the Hassan II Mosque at its tip. You will then leave “Casa” to go to Rabat, modern administrative capital, ancient imperial city ordered and flowered. You will visit the Medina, the Kasbah of the Oudayas, the Hassan Tower and the magnificent mausoleum of Mohamed V, before going around the ramparts and walls of the Mechouar encircling the Royal Palace.
Day 2 : RABAT-MEKNES - VOLUBILIS –FES
Departure for Meknes with a stop in Volubilis to discover the most important Roman ruins of Morocco. From there, the road continues in the hollows of cliffs where water abounds and whose sides shelter a veritable orchard. The village of Moulay Idriss straddles two rocky spurs, remarkable both for its site and for its prestige as a holy city where the founder of Islam in Morocco rests. Continue to Fes and visit this imperial city. Built on a hill, it is discovered from afar with its innumerable minarets. Night over in a Riad in Fes.
Day 3 : Fes
Cradle of a thousand-year-old monarchy, Fes contains the memory of 12 centuries of history and expresses the extreme refinement of the Hispano-Moorish culture. The spiritual and cultural center of traditional Morocco, Fes is a multiple city, unique in its splendor. The alleys of the medina are animated by the numerous souks: the tanners, the dyers or a few steps from the fountain Nejjarine, the carpenters who smell the cedar. They are also marked by places of study or prayers like the Zaouia of Moulay Idriss, considered one of the holiest of Morocco. After a dinner in the Medina, the tour continues through the picturesque alleys of the Mellah, a former Jewish quarter, then on the outskirts of the Royal Palace, ending with the extraordinary panorama of the northern fortifications . Dinner and overnight at hotel in Fes.
Day 4 : FES –IFRAN-THE CEDAR FOREST- MIDELT
Departure for Midelt, by a magnificent and very diversified route. You will first cross the region of the Middle Atlas passing by Immouzzer of the Kandar, Lake Ait Aoua, wonderful place of rest, then lfrane, charming ski resort in the heart of a magnificent forest of cedars where abound the streams. We will arrive into midelt in the afternoon where we will spend the night in a nice hotel.
Day 5 : MIDELT- ERRACHIDIA-ERFOUD-RISSANI - MERZOUGA DESERT
After enjoying your breakfast, we will continue through Er Rachidia, the Tafilalet oasis and we will drive through the Oued ZIZ and Oued Rhris for almost 175 miles. Afterwood we will go to Erfoud which is known for having one of the biggest oasis in the country where a date festival is held each year, it’s also the starting point of excursions into the first great dunes of the Sahara. Right after that we will drive through Rissani which for eleven centuries was the last staging post on the southern caravan route and it’s where the Alaouites first came to the Tafilalet Kasbahs. We will spend the night over in a bivouac.
Day 6 : A 4WD TOUR AROUND THE DESERT
After breakfast, you will leave for a big tour in the dunes passing by: 2 oases of Merzouga, an abandoned deposit, the village of Khamlia (village of Gnawa), the mines of Mifiss, the plateaus where you will meet the nomads Berber desert and the oasis of Tissadmine. Return to the hostel around 3pm for the departure of your caravan on camelback to watch the sunset in the dunes (about an hour and a half of dromedaries). You will spend the night in nomad tents in the dunes to enjoy the silence of the desert and the beauty of its starry sky as far as the eye can see.
Day 7 : MERZOUGA-TINJDAD-TINGHIR-DADES GORGES
Early in the morning, in order to see the sunrise, return by camels to the hotel after breakfast departure to Rissani and Erfoud to visit the fossilized marble processing plant before continuing to Touroug and Tinjdad palm plantation, arrival at the Toudra gorges , Lunch on site, in the afternoon you will head towards the Gorges du Dadès via Boumalne and the Dades valley. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 8: DADES VALLEY –NOMADS IN CAVES-ROSE VALLEY- SKOURA-OURZAZATE
After breakfast, return by the valley of the Dades to the Kasbah of Ait Youl, our road will pass through the valley of the Roses and its Kasbahs and ksour. In this part you will see splendid landscapes before arriving at Kelâa Magona. Lunch on the way. In the afternoon drive to the palm grove of Skoura and visit the Kasbah of Amredhyle. Arrival in Ouarzazate, dinner and evening in a Riad.
Day 9: OURZAZATE- AITBENHADDOU - TIZI N TICHKA - MARRAKECH.
After breakfast, the day will be devoted to the discovery of Ouarzazate: the Kasbah of Taourirt, Tiffoultout and the studios of cinema. Then we will take you to the UNESCO-protected Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, which we will visit as well as the old village. In the afternoon departure for Marrakech by the Tichka pass and arrival around 5:30.
Travelling in a foreign culture and developing country such as Morocco can be a delightfully rewarding and challenging experience.
We recommend hiring a human guide for a few hours to allow yourself to become comfortable with the culture.
Guides know many languages as well as Berber and Arabic, including French, Spanish, and English and often some German, Japanese, Italian and Dutch as well. Our drivers know English, Spanish and French.
We use 4×4 vehicles, Toyota Land Cruisers or similar for our private tours. SUV 4×4’s have lots of room and they seat 4 and 5 average sized people quite comfortably.
You can relax and wear whatever is familiar and comfortable on the street at home. Morocco is very tolerant and welcoming to visitors, you’re not expected to act or look like a Moroccan.
